PRINCIPLES

Care Ethics

The companion does not lead the dying into death. The companion walks beside them until the gate, then stands still.

The Foundation

All care at Alexandria Sanctuary is grounded in the conviction that every human being, at every stage of life, carries irreducible dignity. Care is not service — it is presence.

Non-Abandonment

We commit to remaining present through the full arc of accompaniment. No resident is left alone at the threshold without a companion who has chosen to be there.

Cross-Faith Respect

Alexandria draws from Buddhist, Christian, and contemplative traditions without privileging any. Rituals, prayers, and silences are offered according to the resident's own tradition — or in the absence of tradition, in open stillness.

Confidentiality

Every conversation, disclosure, and passage within the sanctuary is held in complete confidence. Nothing crosses the threshold without explicit consent.

Transparency

Companions are trained to speak plainly about prognosis, process, and limits. We do not soften truth to the point of deception.
